The Legend of The Woman in White – Caroline Clark

The Legend of The Woman in White

Have you ever seen an ethereal woman on the side of the road late at night?

The Woman in White or Lady in White is a well know ghost legend around the world but most notably in the UK, Ireland and the US.  My book The Haunting on Hillside is based on the Running Lady Legend of Beeford, East Yorkshire.

Many motorists have reported her as an apparition running across the Beeford straight toward the junction of North Frodingham.  Tales tell of motorcyclists who stop to pick up a female hitchhiker. Thinking she is lost and in danger. When they look back, she is gone.

There are also tales of her causing car crashes, in one particular it is said she crashed into a tree, killing 6 people!  It is rumored to be her curse and that all who see her will crash and die.

The legend says that when seen she will have blood on her face and will point to the site of her death and scream. Her soul will then appear in the car and will crash the car and kill all those inside.  This is just one of many Woman in White stories, they are all just as scary.

Take a look at my novel The Haunting on the Hillside below. It is based on the Woman in White legend.

The Haunting on the Hillside by Caroline Clark

Be careful when driving in case a Woman in White crosses your path. If she does, well I would pull over and wait until daylight to drive any further, but then that’s just me.

Mark’s girlfriend dies in a car accident before he can tell her how much he loves her. He never believed in ghosts, but a well-meaning friend and guilt push him into new and dangerous territory.

All he wants is the chance to say he is sorry. To speak to her one more time.

During a desperate, alcohol-fueled binge, he buys an Ouija board and calls Alissa.

Is his drinking problem or survivor’s guilt making him doubt his sanity? Or are the footsteps in the night and inexplicable messages real—has Alissa returned?

Gail and Jesse have their own guilt to bear, both tormented by a secret they have no choice but to keep.

Is it their fault Alissa died?

All they want is to help Mark through his grief, but his true plight soon becomes apparent. Evil is waiting and it’s worse than they can imagine.

Will Mark be sucked into the darkness or will he send away his love to save his own life?

Best,

Caroline
