A True Ghost Story – Caroline Clark

A True Ghost Story

I love true ghost stories. In fact, I can’t get enough of them and will share some with you from time to time. Many of my books are loosely based on real hauntings and I love to hear of ghostly goings on and nasty noises in the night. If you have had an experience please let me know. Who knows I may feature it in a future book.

The Black Monk

Yorkshire 1966 and a haunting begins. At first this was a reasonably benign haunting, strange noises, chairs moving, and cold spots. All the sort of thing to get you excited but nothing too worrying.

However, the ghost at 30 East Drive, Pontefract was ready to pile on the horror.

Like many poltergeists it concentrated on the family’s daughter Diane. Scaring and assaulting her. Throwing her from her bed and dragging her up the stairs by her neck. She was left with terrible bruises, often in the form of a hand print.

Sometimes the ghost would show itself. You would see a dark-robed figure lurking at the end of the bed. Staring down at you in the darkness. Can you imagine the terror of waking up and seeing a dark entity staring down at you? What did it do before you awoke? What would it do if you didn’t?

Jesse in The Haunting of RedRise House has been through such an experience. It terrifies me to think of what could happen while you are sleeping.

The ghost in this true haunting eventually stopped harassing the family and many years after a paranormal investigator discovered some remarkable facts. The house was built on the grounds of a medieval rectory. It was just across from an old gallows where many people had died brutal deaths. One of those was a Cluniac Monk. The man had been convicted of abusing and murdering a young girl the same age as Diane. The ghost now had a name The Black Monk.

Maybe I’ll do a story about The Black Monk, I think he certainly sounds like a creepy ghost to feature.

If you would like to find out more about Jesse’s experience then join my newsletter here.

Ivy love hearing ghost stories, but it’s not something that normally frightens me there has to be something really disturbing for me to scare. Now something happening while I’m sleeping is one of the reasons my TV stays on at night, and I have insomnia.

Hi Maria. Everything is a little creepier at night. I also keep my TV on.

That sounds pretty horrifying, and I think the Black Monk would make for a great evil character in a horror story.

Hi Marisa. Actually, people still report seeing or feeling things in the house but nothing as violent as in the past. There have been many exorcisms and ghost hunters in the house. However, Ouijia boards and exorcisms are now banned.

I have seen ghosts. When I was 5 years old a little girl appear in front of me . We were beside a pond and she looked sad . She and her dress had no color. She would say over and over. ” Be very careful do not fall in, Be very careful do not fall in. ” Then she just disappear. People told me about her later that day. The girl had died after falling into the pond. I think other children may have seen her in the pass because none of the adults looked surprise by what I told them. The girl’s mother still lived by the pond and at times would stand out side on a small hill that looked down on to the pond , just watching and waiting ,as if to see the girl. This women would take in foster children and if there was a child that had the same name as her daughter’s that child was always welcome. I was one of those foster kids who’s name was Deb . Many other Debs lived there over the years and it was a nice place to live
