I love true ghost stories. In fact, I can’t get enough of them and will share some with you from time to time. Many of my books are loosely based on real hauntings and I love to hear of ghostly goings on and nasty noises in the night. If you have had an experience please let me know. Who knows I may feature it in a future book.
The Black Monk
Yorkshire 1966 and a haunting begins. At first this was a reasonably benign haunting, strange noises, chairs moving, and cold spots. All the sort of thing to get you excited but nothing too worrying.
However, the ghost at 30 East Drive, Pontefract was ready to pile on the horror.
Like many poltergeists it concentrated on the family’s daughter Diane. Scaring and assaulting her. Throwing her from her bed and dragging her up the stairs by her neck. She was left with terrible bruises, often in the form of a hand print.
Sometimes the ghost would show itself. You would see a dark-robed figure lurking at the end of the bed. Staring down at you in the darkness. Can you imagine the terror of waking up and seeing a dark entity staring down at you? What did it do before you awoke? What would it do if you didn’t?
Jesse in The Haunting of RedRise House has been through such an experience. It terrifies me to think of what could happen while you are sleeping.
The ghost in this true haunting eventually stopped harassing the family and many years after a paranormal investigator discovered some remarkable facts. The house was built on the grounds of a medieval rectory. It was just across from an old gallows where many people had died brutal deaths. One of those was a Cluniac Monk. The man had been convicted of abusing and murdering a young girl the same age as Diane. The ghost now had a name The Black Monk.
Maybe I’ll do a story about The Black Monk, I think he certainly sounds like a creepy ghost to feature.
